William, Kate, Harry and Meghan condemn “horrifying assault”today.

William and Kate, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sus

sex, have said they have all spent time in Christchurch and its “open-hearted and generous” people.

They condemned the violence on the Muslim community, calling it “horrifying assault on a way of life that embodies decency, community, and friendship.”

”No person should ever have to fear attending a sacred place of worship,” the royal couples said in a statement.

  Here’s the full statement:

Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the people who lost their lives in the devastating attack in Christchurch.

We have all been fortunate to spend time in Christchurch and have felt the warm, open-hearted and generous spirit that is core to its remarkable people.

No person should ever have to fear attending a sacred place of worship.

This senseless attack is an affront to the people of Christchurch and New Zealand, and the broader Muslim comm

unity. It is a horrifying assault on a way of life that embodies decency, community, and friendship.

We know that from this devastation and deep mourning, the people of New Zealand will unite to show that such evil can never defeat compassion and tolerance.

We send our thoughts and prayers to everyone in New Zealand today.

There were 215 million single people in China at the

end of 2017, accounting for about 16 percent of the population, ac

cording to the National Bureau of Statistics. Marriage registrations have fallen every year

since 2014, while the divorce rate has risen for 16 consecutive years, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

Dining, traveling and pursuing activities individually have also become increasingly popular with singles in China.

Tang Chuan, a researcher with Sinolink Securities, said that without family burdens, singles

seem to be less inclined to save money, and their willingness to spend offers great potential for boosting the economy.

Sinolink Securities conducted research on singles born from 1985 to 1995 and found that about 40 percent of those in first- an

d second-tier cities live from paycheck to paycheck, while in lower-tier cities, the proportion is as high as 76 percent.

“I was about to be 30 and wanted to celebrate this special birthday in Europe, but I couldn’t find any companion to go with

me,” he said. “So, I visited Europe on my own and found doing so could be pleasant, as it enabled me to change my rou

te and meet interesting travelers. I even met a backpacker who guided me to the Alps.”

Xu Xiaolei, a spokesman for China Youth Travel Service, said the number of people traveling alone has grown steadily in rec

ent years. Last year, 10 percent of the company’s revenue came from single travelers, mostly ages 18 to 30.

“For the younger generation, experiencing unique cultu

res and relaxing their minds and bodies are the main reasons for traveling, rather than con

necting with others or sightseeing. So they won‘t stop travelling because they lack a companion,” Xu said.

In tour groups, guides will usually pay more attention to solo travelers, making them feel less lonely or embarrassed, he said.

But the US would also like an agreement from Kim that

he will agree to dismantle the DPRK’s enrichment facilities and access for internat

ional experts to verify the dismantling of a rocket launch site and a nuclear testing site.

Of course, the process to make the Korean Peninsula nuclear-free could be a long drawn ou

t process given that the US and the DPRK are yet to fully agree on what “complete denuclearization” me

ns, which makes it difficult for them to agree on how to turn that vision into reality.

And while Washington has been seeking “complete, verifiable and irreversible” denuclearization before it lifts its san

ctions on the DPRK, Pyongyang has insisted on a process carried out “stage-by-stage” in a “simultaneous way”.

Despite all this, the peace process must never be allowed to stall o

r be reversed. Peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula is the common aspiration of all pe

ace-loving people, and conforms to the interests of all the parties concerned, including China, which has played an in

dispensable role in maintaining the momentum of engagement between Pyongyang and Washington.

Kim and Trump are on the right track toward realizi

ng the goal of a denuclearized peninsula. The end of the nearly 70-year hostility between the two cou

ntries, if realized with a peace deal, would in itself be no small feat, and it will def

initely pave the way for more concrete actions taken by the two sides to rid the peninsula of the threat of nuclear war.

Beyond “Black Panther,” Marvel’s highlights included “Spider

Man: Into the Spider-Verse” swinging off with best animated movie, as the Sony release topped a pair of Disney sequels, “Ralph

Breaks the Internet” and “Incredibles 2.” “Free Solo,” a hit documentary about daredevil climber Al

ex Honnold, topped the documentary feature category, which also included the Ruth Bader Ginsburg biography “RBG.” In th

eir enthusiasm, one of the filmmakers blurted out an expletive that was promptly bleeped.

”Bohemian Rhapsody’s” other wins came in both sound categories as

well editing. Notably, none of the “Rhapsody” winners thanked credited director, Bryan Si

nger, who was accused of sexual abuse in January, allegations that the filmmaker has denied.

In one of the more expected victories, the team that transformed Christian Bale into former Vice Pr

esident Dick Cheney won in makeup/hairstyling for “Vice.” Visual effects, however, were something of a

surprise, going to “First Man,” the moon-landing drama about Neil Armstrong.

Lacking a host, the producers relied on music and comedy bits to enlive

n the evening, including a duet from “A Star is Born” by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga — la

ter the winner for best song — which drew a standing ovation from the Hollywood crowd.

Thailand’s political changes mirror those of Southeast Asiawhich

is a region in transition. Since the beginning of the 21st century, thi

s region has come across political struggle between new capitalistic groups and old b

ureaucratic factions, as well as political turmoil as a result of the huge gap between the rich and poor.

Indonesia is also going to hold a presidential election in April. These upcoming electi

ons have sent a clear signal that Southeast Asian countries long for political stability and development.

The Thai election can give confidence to other countries in the region. After all, with very few exc

eptions, the junta can return power to the people through elections.

As for China-Thailand relations, historically, no matter which

government came to power after several coups, the direction of bilateral ties has never chang

ed. The cooperation between China and Thailand has become the common  aspiration  of the  two peoples and is in their mutual interest.

Robert Aspell, president for Asia-Pacific of the US agricultural

nglomerate Cargill Inc, said the best way to solve trade issues is to talk to each other, communicating to find solutions.

“A large number of global companies have invested in China; it is a clear signal that Ch

ina is going to further open its markets, and many opportunities can be found in different sectors across the country,” he said.

Experts said the new progress, reached by collaborative efforts from both sides, can im

prove the outlook for both the US and Chinese economies and benefit the global economy and supply chain in 2019.

The Chinese and US economies are so inextricably intertwined that a blow to one would most li

kely make a dent in the other, too, said Bai Ming, deputy director at the International Market Institute of the

Beijing-based Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation.

This interdependence would exact far-reaching damage on the optimal resource allocation of both countries if trade tensions esc

alated, said Chen Wenling, chief economist at the China Center for Economic Exchanges. “The US needs C

hinese goods as much as China needs equipment and agricultural products from the US,” she said.
